People, Punters, Parties, Ponies, Bookies and JockeysI recently blogged here & here about my fashion shots from the Summer Ladies day at Navan Racecourse . While the Ladies' finery was the main objective of the day, race meetings also give lots of chances for shots of people, punters, parties, ponies, bookies and jockeys. Here's a few of my faves from the day - starting with skittish thoroughbreds in the parade ring, along with their handlers, jockeys and owners - and then a few shots of the races themselves.
And they're off!
At the winning post.
Jockeys.
Of course the TV cameras get the best view of the races - but I wouldn't like to have been up here when the thunderstorms were approaching. Fortunately, they never made it to the course!
For punters and bookies, of course, the races are serious business!
Looks like this young racegoer's hopes were dashed!
In contrast to the colours of the Ladies fashion, I think the guys' expressions are best seen in black and white.
Although punters seem to have keen eye for the fashion in between races!
Here's Colm O'Rourke |(centre) - double all-Ireland winner with Meath in the 1980's - keeping a keen eye on proceedings.
Another regular group at race meetings are stags, hen and parties. This big group also did an impressive whip around for the Injured Jockeys Fund
Having your Hen at the Races seems like a good way to test the outfits!
And to finish, here's one of the Best Dressed Ladies giving those heels a well earned rest!
